Avon Japan, a subsidiary of AVON Products Inc., publishes 20 campaign catalogs (six hundred thousand copies each), and about 600 productions such as fliers and handbills for sales staff every year.

Avon Japan’s Digital Publishing and Prepress group is responsible for the in-house production work for all of its print media, including the catalogs. The company has a unique system due to its relationship with Dainihon Printing— Dainihon Printing’s pre-press team works directly with Avon Japan to do the retouching work. In order to keep pace with the demands of production and facilitate the workflow between the Dainihon Printing team and Avon Japan’s Digital Publishing and Prepress Group, Avon Japan turned to Xinet® WebNative® to help streamline production.

“One of the key benefits of the Xinet solution is that we were able to better share our data with Dainihon Printing, but also maintain control of those assets,” said Mr. Kiyotaka Okamura, Manager of Avon Japan’s Digital Publishing and Prepress group.

FPO workflow. Once the team at Dainihon Printing does the retouching work on the photos, they are able to upload them to the WebNative server at anytime for Avon Japan’s layout artists. Additionally, using metadata, Avon Japan employees can easily find, share and store their assets. This allows multiple departments to access and repurpose assets from old projects as well as new.

“With the Xinet system, we can store and centralize all these assets on our own server and make it available with a seamless method of creative layouts,” Mr. Okamura said. “This has been an invaluable tool for us.”
